Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024At the age of 27, he entered the National Theatre School of Denmark and graduated in 1995. Apart from his role in the drama series that was released worldwide under the name The Killing, he subsequently played in two other critically popular Danish drama series, Those Who Kill and Borgen III. He also had a leading part in an episode of the BBC drama Sherlock as a blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. In the American television series House of Cards, he was the role of the president of Russia. He won an International Emmy Award in 2018 for his part in the Danish TV drama Herrens Veje, which was broadcast in the UK in 2019 under the name Ride on the Storm.In addition to his home country of Danish, Mikkelsen speaks fluent Swedish, German and English, and he has mastered different accents. He has claimed that his brother and he first picked up English by listening to Monty Python records and learning the sketches from the comedy show.
